The road
From central Auckland to the Hahei Visitor Car Park is 175.1 km by road, out through the Waikato and over the Coromandel Peninsula; Tourism New Zealand gives Hot Water Beach as 2 hours 20 minutes from Auckland. There and back, that is some 350 km in a day, so a good part of any 12-hour tour is spent in the vehicle.

How the 12 hours split
Expedigo NZ’s itinerary allows 2.5 hours of driving through the Waikato on the way out and 2.5 hours on the drive back through the Thames-Coromandel District, so about 5 of the 12 hours are on the road. The rest goes to a 15-minute stop on the peninsula, about 2 hours at Hot Water Beach, 30 minutes at Hahei Beach and the stop at Cathedral Cove, with lunch on the way.
